Once again, I have stumbled upon another incredible soapmaker I want to share with you.
Scrolling through adorable goat pictures on the Internet, I came across Little Bit Goat Soap. After venturing over to Aliena’s Facebook page I knew I just had to try out her soaps. I was impressed with her quick follow up and passion for her goats and love of soapmaking. I am a huge fan of Nubian goat milk and I learned there are also mini-Nubians.
I was so excited to receive my order from Little Bit Soap. The packaging is darling! The aroma from the essential oils is beyond amazing. The Rose Grapefruit soap caught my eye. It's just as beautiful in person. I also ordered the lovely Rose Grapefruit tinted lip balm. I love the color. The alkanet root powder gives the lip balm a gorgeous burgundy tint. I also selected the Lavender lip balm with no added color. I selected an assortment of soaps with herbal essential oils. I love them all!
I asked Aliena if she could share her story behind Little Bit Goat Soap
How did you get started with making soap?
Soap making for me started a couple years ago with my first goat who was given to me by a good friend. I’d always wanted to try soap making as it is similar to cooking which I have a fondness for. The goat he gave me was a Nigerian Dwarf named Dolly. Unfortunately, Dolly was just too small to be a good milk goat, but she gave me the desire to continue with my goat adventures so, I purchased a Mini-Nubian in milk named Mamma. She produced so much milk I didn’t know what to do with it all! A few days later and many YouTube videos and instructional blog posts later, I decided it was time to try my hand at making soap. I purchased a soap making book and followed everything to the “T” on the materials and supplies I would need.
Making my first batch of soap I was so incredibly nervous! I was worried about temperature, worried about timing, what if I didn’t buy the right ingredients or didn’t add them in the correct order? But low and behold I make my first batch of cold process goat milk soap and it turned out great! Since then, I have perfected my base recipe and have fun experimenting with new ingredients, colors, and techniques.
What uniqueness do you want your customers to know about your incredible soap?
I believe what makes my soap making unique is my desire to use all natural ingredients. I do not use any artificial colors, scents, or ingredients in my soaps and keep everything organic and locally sourced when possible. Which does make it more difficult for me when I have a desire to make intercut swirls or layered colors, but I enjoy the challenge. Using natural colorants like Alkanet root powder not only gives me the benefit of the properties of this natural herb (including antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory), but also the ability to adjust the color in my products. In my Rose Grapefruit tinted lip balm I use Alkanet root powder to give a nice pink/red shade when applied, but in my lavender soap I use Alkanet root powder for a nice shade of purple. I love being able to use what nature has provided to give my customers an all-natural experience in their bath and beauty products.
I love your catchy name, how did you come up with it?
Our slogan is little bit of this, little bit of that, lotta bit of LOVE. This carries over into my products and the love for the goats that give me the ability create these lovely soaps. I use a little of everything in my products while also keeping them as simple as possible and I make a little of everything from soaps to lip balms, to 100% cotton crocheted soap saver bags and wash cloths. In my process of soaping, creating, and testing products, I try to put as much love, care, and attention to details into everything so I can give my customers as much enjoyment from my products as possible.
Where can we buy Little Bit Goat Soap?
In person:
Now entering 2022, I have my soap featured in one local boutique which is Mosa Clothing and Homegoods in Mineral Wells, TX and I go to as many farmers markets, craft fairs, and vendor fairs as I can. I enjoy telling people about my products and my lovely little herd of Mini-Nubian and Nigerian dwarf goats who are probably the most spoiled and loved on goats ever!
