Our Little Farm - Featured Soap Artist by Beach City Boutique

Posted by Kelly R - Soap Artist @ Beach City Boutique on Jan 17th 2022

As a soapmaker myself, I appreciate the benefits of quality homemade soap and enjoy meeting and purchasing from other soapmakers. I absolutely love Nubian goat’s milk but being a city girl, I do not have access to fresh milk. I scour the web for small production soap artists who have something very special to offer. I found Kendra Nash in a soapmakers group and fell in love with her story and darling goats.

I purchased her Eucalyptus mint cold process soap. The aroma turned my shower into my own private spa experience. The bar came adorably packaged and did not disappoint on my skin.

I asked Kendra is she wouldn’t mind sharing a little about herself and her process. Thank you for participating Kendra!

Please enjoy…

How did you get started with making soap?

My mother and I have been making soap for about 3 years now. It all started when we really got into milking goats and figuring out all the creative things we could do with the milk besides drinking it. We had several trial and errors but once we figured it out, there was no stopping us! The creativity and the benefits of using goat milk soap was enough for us to be hooked! We both really enjoy making it, using it, and the time we get to spend together.

When we first moved on to our farm, I begged my parents for goats. We had never owned goats prior to the farm, and so it was a new experience for all of us. Luckily, I went to school with a gal whose family raised Nubian dairy goats and they taught me so much and helped me get my first milking goats, Ruby & Stella. She also gave me a bar of soap to try, and we absolutely loved it! So soft and creamy and made our skin feel very healthy and hydrated. Ruby & Stella are still here with us on the farm and have taught us and learned with us as we embarked on our homesteading/self-sufficient journey. My dad has made most of my farm dreams possible by being the best builder I know and has helped all my ideas come to life. He and I farm together, and my mother and I craft & garden together. After having the goats our first year we fell in love with their personalities, temperament, and their creamy delicious milk. It was from there on out that we really got into breeding, selling, milking, making soap and other dairy products. We since have added another breed of goat to our farm, Miniature Fainting goats.

Why do you love making soap?

One of the reasons I love to make soap is that it gives you the freedom to be as creative or simple as you want to be. Coming up with what scents you want to use, what colors, oils, powders you want to use, and how you want to decorate the top or make it unique. You can use so many dried herbs, salts, seeds, and other natural things to give it a scrubbing texture or pretty top look. It is also just so great for the skin, and I love being able to create something that I enjoy using and can share with others.

Do you have a unique process?

We make cold process soap; we heat and melt our oils together and in a separate bowl we mix our lye & frozen goat milk together, and once everything is at the right temperature that is when we mix, blend, and add any essential/fragrance oils we want to use and or additives for exfoliation and what not.

Do you sell your soaps at a particular farmers market?

Right now, we just sell our soaps directly from the farm and through our Facebook & Instagram page. We are working on creating our own farm stand for people to be able to stop by and see what we have available.

I am excited to try her other soaps. If you would like to purchase her soap, please reach out to Kendra at Our Little Farm:
