I was scrolling through the pictures on my feed and up popped a post from Shanna of Spraggins Sweet Acres. Since I am always on the lookout for fresh goat milks soap, I decided to try her soap. Here’s the lovely sampling I received:
I enjoy sharing my finds with others who may want to support a soapmaker and their animals, knowing that handmade soap is not your average store-bought soap but rather a treat for your skin.
I asked Shanna to share her story. Shanna is foremost a gal who raises her own dairy goats, but I am glad she got the bug for making soap. These creatures are so adorable!
How did you get started with making soap?
I have always loved raising dairy goats, when I discovered the fun in making soaps I was instantly hooked. There are so many colors and scents, the possibilities are endless! Not only do I enjoy it but it gives my goats an even bigger purpose here on the farm besides my personal therapy.
Why do you love making soap?
I love making soap because I know what I am making and using on my own skin. I have naturally sensitive skin so by controlling what products and limiting chemicals I can create the perfect soap for my skin. Now that I have found what works, I love sharing it with the community!
What is unique about your soap?
I use all natural ingredients and various oils. My favorite additive would be lard or fat. Have you ever gotten bacon grease on your hands when cleaning a pan? It gives your hands such a smooth/moisturizing feeling, and I wanted to replicate that feeling when using the soap.
If you would like to try some of Shanna’s soaps, you can reach out to her on her farm Facebook page. In the future she has plans to expand into local farmer’s markets. Like her page so you can stay up with her latest news. You can follow Spraginns Sweet Acres on Instagram
Here’s a little bit about Shanna and Spraggins Sweet Acres
We are a small family farm in Michigan, my goal was to make our farm as self-sustainable as possible. I like the idea of “living off the land” as much as we can and knowing what we are eating and using product wise. We raise our own meats, grow our own garden, and make our own soaps, etc…Thank you for taking the time to read about our farm!
Pictured are several of our animals. In the photo with me is my “favorite” herd goat “Giselle” She is a nubian/lamancha mix. Her baby is pictured with the pink/black nose “Baby Turbo”.
The horse pictured is actually a horse I won in a raffle! Her name is Octavia, she is 1 of 6 horses here on the farm.
