Karen Torok

Karen Torok is an illustrator, designer, and creative director who has been drawing ever since her mom introduced her to pastels and the expressive artwork of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. She has been filling sketchbooks ever since. With a lifelong love of making art and an ever-growing art supply collection, Karen continues to explore new ways of creating, combining digital tools with traditional media to keep her work fresh, playful, and full of personality.

Karen graduated from Ohio University with a BFA in Visual Communications and has spent more than 25 years working in publishing, surface design, consumer products, and advertising. Before starting her own design and illustration business, she worked as an Art Director and Photo Stylist in Cleveland and as a Photo Researcher and Art Director for a stock photography company in Los Angeles. Her whimsical illustration style has led to projects for clients including American Girl, Fisher-Price, Mattel, Highlights, Scholastic, Random House, PepsiCo, Real Foods, Spin Master, Sterling Publishing, and Working Mother Magazine. Her work has appeared on everything from children’s books and toys to stationery, home décor, party products, and other consumer goods.

In recent years, Karen has focused on surface pattern design and illustration for home décor and consumer products. She is happiest during the early stages of a project—dreaming up ideas, filling sketchbooks with possibilities, and finding the little details that make an illustration special. She loves continually learning and experimenting, whether she’s working in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, painting with traditional media, or discovering a new creative technique. She is excited to bring that curiosity, imagination, and love of detail to Diamond Art, creating artwork that inspires others to slow down, get creative, and enjoy the simple pleasure of making something beautiful.
